Full description
This lovely beach themed bookmark is made from a mixture of different fabrics and haberdashery items, and has been free-motion embroidered. The design features waves breaking onto a sandy beach under a partly cloudy sky, and is depicted in shades of blue, beige, cream, white, brown and olive green. The sky is made from pale blue and cream variegated print fabric. The sea is made from blue fabrics, fluffy yarn, lace and fabric selvedge. The sand is made from golden cream fabric. The sea and sand features free-motion embroidered detailing, including olive green grass. There are two large pebbles in the sand, which are a combination of appliqué and free motion embroidery. I’ve added a piece of cream twill ribbon, on which I’ve hand-stamped the words “Beach life” in black ink (this has then been ironed to make it water-resistant). The bookmark is backed with pale blue upholstery fabric, stiffened with an inner layer of interfacing, and edged with zig-zag stitching in blue thread.
This delightful bookmark is an inexpensive way of owning a piece of textile art. It would make an ideal gift for anyone who loves reading and loves the sea.
