Formerly 'Buttons, Beads and Blanket Stitch'.
My work predominantly comprises hand cut and burnished lino prints, with sewing playing an occasional part.
Whether working in print or in stitch, I am inspired by the natural world and the people around me, with words/text frequently playing an integral part.
* I endeavour to represent my pieces as clearly and with colours as true to life as possible, however some slight variations in tone between the image on screen and the piece itself may occur.*
I love to develop new work, but being a part time printmaker means that all too often, the carving of new linos falls down the list of priorities. Before I know it, the weeks have passed and nothing new has been carved. Frustrating.
So, towards the end of 2022 in a bid to regain a bit of artistic balance, I decided that I would aim to produce one small new print each month throughout the upcoming year, and so the idea for my ‘Year in a Suburban Garden’ prints was born.
(Having not found the time to give this project proper attention, it has, for now at least, been put on hold).

This print marks March in my 2023 series celebrating the growth and change throughout the months, as reflected in our suburban garden.
The return of the daffodils in the spring is always such a welcome sight after the gloom of winter, with their cheery yellows and fresh greens peppering the garden with brightness.
Sketches made, I decided upon the simple, bold composition, then transferred the image onto a traditional hessian backed lino. This I hand cut and then burnished onto a lovely Japanese Hosho paper. The paper measures approx. 14cm x 20cm with the printed image itself at 10cm x 15cm approx.
The image is printed in a rich black oil-based ink in a small edition of just 10. Having been printed by hand, slight variations from print to print will occur; such is the beauty of a unique, hand-crafted piece.
Your print will be posted to you in a cello with a back board, ready to present as is or to frame with the mount and surround of your choosing.
Fairly small in both size and price, these prints make a lovely little easy to post gift.
