Obsidian is a volcanic glass that forms when molten rock cools rapidly.
It is mostly black, but can be found in brown, tan or green and - rarely - in red, orange, yellow or blue.
Sometimes two colours can swirl together.
This occurs most commonly with brown and black, and is known as Mahogany Obsidian, so called because the colour is reminiscent of rich, polished mahogany wood.
Obsidian has been used by humans since the Stone Age.
When broken, Obsidian has very sharp edges, and Stone Age man fashioned the material into spear tips, arrow heads and knife blades.
Mahogany Obsidian is thought to enhance creative energy and sexuality.

Full description
Each earring features a polished, 15x18mm Mahogany Obsidian oval, topped with a 6mm faceted black Onyx bead and a pair of 4mm Mahogany Obsidian rounds, highlighted by 3mm copper beads.
The beads are threaded onto copper pins and hung from copper ear-wires.
Mahogany Obsidian occurs when two different colours of Obsidian, black and brown, are swirled together, producing a beautifully patterned stone of russet-brown and black with a lovely, glossy sheen.
Each oval bead shows different patterns and markings on each side, and the stone can be swivelled to show either side.
The faceted Onyx adds a subtle glint in the light, and the copper adds a warm shine.
These earrings measure approximately 1.5 inches (4cm), excluding the wires.
Your earrings will be wrapped in tissue and presented in a small organza gift bag.
