The cherry wood I used to carve this spoon came from the grounds maintenance team at Christchurch Park, Ipswich. The section I got was from the trunk of the tree, so I was able to carve many pieces from it, including this beautiful spoon.
I was interested in experimenting with ebonising fluid to see if it could add something new to my work. Once I'd made the solution, from white wine vinegar and wire wool, I felt this was an ideal piece to experiment with since the natural tannins within cherry wood react particularly well to ebonising fluid and can produce interesting results.
I'm very pleased with how this piece has turned out and I think it would suit any modern kitchen.

Full description
A stylish hand carved wooden serving spoon. The spoon has been carved from a piece of cherry wood from Christchurch Park in Ipswich and has a beautiful colour and an attractive wood grain. The spoon measures approximately 27.5cm in length and the widest part of the bowl measures 6.5cm.
The handle of this generously sized serving spoon is smooth to the touch and comfortable to hold. The handle has been darkened with ebonising fluid, made from white wine vinegar and wire wool, which darkens the natural tannins in the wood and creates an interesting design feature.
The piece has been treated with a coating of linseed oil to cure the wood, then burnished with a smooth pebble to create an attractive finish.
Once purchased, the item will be beautifully wrapped and sent to you in eco-friendly, plastic-free packaging, which is fully recyclable. You will also receive information about how to care for your wooden utensil.
