Item details

This ceramic low relief, landscape, has been created by layers of coloured slip, which has been applied when the clay is still wet.
When leather hard, texture is then scraped through to start defining diferent areas of the composition.
After the first firing, these landscapes can be worked into with various oxides and under glazes, to create moody skies, grasses, sky lines and seed heads.
The near completed picture is then dipped into a clear glaze before being placed back into the kiln for a second firing, giving the pieces a glossy finish.

This Ceramic Landscape is 5.5 cm square and approx 1 cm thick, mounted onto an up cycled, painted and varnished wooden panel, measuring 20 x 20 cm and 1 cm thick.
This art work is fully signed by myself on the front and reverse.

These landscape pieces are inspired by areas of the local coastline, which is home to an RSPB site, one of three in the local area.
The Inner Forth has many layers of history, combined with nature and Industrial Heritage, providing a home to many animals and birds such as migrant and wintering fowl eg. Shelduck, Pink Footed Geese and Waders, the changing seasons and light quality, providing constant inspiration throughout the year.
This low relief, ceramic landscape is ready to hang immediately and can withstand areas of light humidity such as a kitchen, bringing a bit of the outdoors into your home.
