"Irises" is created using the relief printmaking method of reduction linocut printing. As each print is created by hand there may be tiny variations which add to the individual beauty of each original artwork. "Irises" is printed onto Okawara 51gsm printmaking paper from Awagami Factory in Japan.

Reduction linocut printing is a method of relief printmaking that involves transferring or drawing a design in reverse onto the lino surface and then cutting the lino away in stages using mainly U and V shaped gouges. Paper is placed face down onto the inked block and hand burnished or pressed to lift each layer of colour building up to the final print. As the lino block is destroyed in the process, the edition of prints is final and no further prints can ever be made creating a very special series of prints.

There is no additional postage charge across my shop at checkout, prints under £50 are sent by first class Royal Mail, prints over £50 are shipped tracked 48hr with Royal Mail, prints over £100 are shipped by courier. I aim to post all orders on the next working day and always within three working days.

If you are buying a print as a gift and you would like it sent directly to the recipient, I can add a handprinted notecard with your message handwritten inside, and a kraft wrapping at no extra charge. Please just add a note at checkout telling me what you would like me to write in the notecard.

Unfortunately I have decided to no longer ship overseas due to the complexities and costs.

Irises are such striking flowers, so architectural, and purple is my favourite colour. Having created my tiny "Iris" monochrome print earlier in the year, I couldn't resist taking on the challenge of a reduction print! Often featuring in Art Nouveau designs I have tried to reflect this style in this print.

Irises are said to represent wisdom, hope and valour.
