Agate is a form of Chalcedony, part of the Quartz family, and gets its name from the River Achates, in Sicily, where it was first found.
It is one of the oldest known minerals, used by the ancient Sumerians and Egyptians for ornaments and amulets.
I love the patterns in these highly polished beads.
Each one has a different colouration and design, making this necklace truly unique.
Agate is the ancient birthstone for June and Gemini, whilst Pearl is the modern birthstone.

Full description
Gorgeous, polished Banded Agate beads, in various sizes, with lustrous Swarovski glass pearls and creamy-white shell with a glint of mother-of-pearl.
The central, beautifully patterned Agate beads feature a 10mm round between six 8mm beads, in contrasting shades of pinkish-brown, chocolate, grey and creamy-white.
These are flanked on either side by a trio of 5mm cream Swarovski pearls.
The necklace graduates from 6mm Agate to 5mm shell and 4mm Agate, and is finished with a Tibetan-style, 'antique gold', rose toggle clasp.
This is nickel and lead free.
The necklace measures approximately 16.5 inches (43cm).
Presented in a pretty organza gift bag.
