This Ceramic Thistle Wall Art, has been cut from a slab of hand rolled white earthenware clay, before being decorated with clay thistles, press moulded from an original cast, from plants growing in my own garden.
After careful drying to avoid warping, the hearts receive a first firing, before various washes of coloured under glazes are applied and rubbed back, revealing the fine details of the original plant, creating a fossil like effect.
Clear earthenware glaze is then poured over the whole piece, before going back into the kiln for a glaze firing, giving the whole art work a smooth,glossy finish.
This Heart Wall Art, measures approx 15 cm in height, 14 cm in width and a depth of 5 mm.
Strung with a faux suede like, deep brown chord, this wall art is ready to hang immediately.

This Floral Ceramic Heart, has been inspired bey a combination of Folk Art, Folklore and my love of local nature and plants.
After forming the initial clay base, the hearts are then decorated with various plants that are symbolic, seasonal or healing in some way.
Choosing colours that echo the the plants and enhance the details that the clay cast has captured.
The back of the piece has been left blank and unglazed, so could be written on with a message or someones name.
