While living in Wiltshire, I often used to walk on the downs, which served as inspiration for much of my work. This particular day was stormy; a steely sky & the threat 0f squalls. Then I noticed a crow watching from a thorn tree. It didn`t move the whole time I passed. With my love of mythology & folklore, it really sparked my imagination & when I got home I wrote a poem, letting my imagination run riot. The poem then led to a series of three lino cut illustrations of which this is the second.
This is from the poem:

The menacing light of impending storm,
Sky slate blue, strong lit above,
Picks out the earthwork banks & ditches
Lightning splits the darkness........
He does not move,
The crow.

Full description

This reduction lino print, is inspired by an original poem by the artist, about a walk on the Wiltshire downs during a thunder storm.

A tree wherein sits a crow, stands out against a slate-blue sky & a lightning flash. The hill is topped by an iron-age earthwork & is deeply cut by banks & terraces. The lightning flash makes the colours of the hillside stand out in bright shades of green.
