I like the subtle understatement of larvikite, how it seems at first glance to be a mottled stone of paler and darker grey until light reveals hints of a silvery sheen and flash of blue.
It is named after the region of Larvik in Norway, and was named Norways national stone in 2008.
Opal is the birthstone for October and Libra.

Full description
The centrepiece for this necklace is a 13mm x 18mm larvikite teardrop set between ten glittering Swarovski crystal bicones in the colours "padparadscha" and "black diamond".
I have then used 6mm larvikite and pink opal beads, graduating to 5mm oval and 4mm round hematite beads and finishing with a gold filled trigger clasp..
I have added a few more crystals between the beads for extra sparkle.
The opal beads are a pale pink/peach colour and the larvikite are a mottled grey that catch the light with hints of silver-blue labradorescence.
This necklace measures approximately 18 inches (46cm).
Presented in a pretty organza gift bag.
