I love the ethereal quality of feathers, and their symbolic beauty.
I also love this form of concertina book with cutout windows and an image inserted which creates great shadows.
The long watercolour was painted first, becoming the book, then each feather was printed and cut out individually before sewing in place.
It features the hand-written qualities of feathers - connection, freedom, love, wisdom, hope, thankful, growth, flight, space and purity.

Feathers are a symbolic and beautiful image.
Here's a whole concertina book full of them, one feather per page.
This tall thin concertina book is created from a sheet of watercolour paper with loose painted feathers, and explores the qualities of what feathers symbolise.
Each page features one feather (lino printed) machine sewn inside a cutout window with one hand-written quality underneath.
This is a one-of-a-kind mixed media study featuring watercolour painting, linocut printing, machine and hand sewing, lettering.
It was created to produce beautiful shadows when displayed in direct line of sunshine.
Where will you place it?
This original artwork measures 7 x 15cm and extends to approximately 50cm when displayed.
It comes in a cello bag for protection (can be removed if you prefer, please mention in comments), and will be posted securely wrapped with card and recycled packaging for protection. If you can reuse the bag and packaging please do :)
