Snowflakes have inspired jewellery decoration ever since the first one was seen under a lense, being tiny geometric jewels themselves, but transient and ephemeral, dissolving into water at a touch. To preserve the shape in silver is to keep something of the water crystals which must be lost. No wonder that a victorian seamstress might choose to finish a black mourning gown with countless of these tiny buttons to fasten the "leg of mutton" sleeves.

Full description
Chunky solid sterling silver stud earrings cast from an antique victorian mourning button depicting a classic snowflake design with six points and a scored background. These earrings were cast by hand from recycled silver in my studio in East Sussex and the sterling silver pins soldered to them. They have been antiqued to bring out the details of this iconic design. Each earring measures 9mm or 3/8" in diameter and is 1.5mm or 1/16" thick at the thickest point, making them very suitable for daily wear. The final photograph displays them next to a vintage lipstick case in order to give a sense of scale.
These earrings will arrive stylishly packaged in a decorated gift box ready to give as a gift or keep as you wish.
Please note: there is a tiny amount of damage to the antique glass button that was used to cast the earrings, and that is replicated in the cast silver, which is a facsimilie of the original button. I only have one of the buttons, as it is a rare design and I have not been able to find any of its sisters. It is therefore an orphan, but the slight flaw gives it a unique charm of its own.
