Full description

This retro freeform pendant features a piece of vintage fordite with a swirly colour scheme of reds, yellows, browns, turquoise and bottle green all very reminiscent of the 70s. The colour palette and freeform (roughly triangular) shape make this piece particularly unisex and a great gift for any retro muscle car lover. Measures approx 43mm inc bail by 32mm wide, comes with a sterling silver snake chain in a gift box but if you would prefer a brown or black leather cord instead then drop me a message.

Fordite is the name given to the baked build up of paint that formed in the old style spray booths at car factories. As fashions changed so did the colours in fordite and by comparing to old paint charts it is possible to work out the date and factory that fordite has come from. I believe that this material came from a Ford factory in the late 70's (77 or 78 ish) - the bright yellow (chrome yellow on the colour charts) and turquoise (Caribbean turq) are more unusual shades. This piece of rough had obviously had a hard life and required stabilising before I could cut it - some of the stabilising agent is visible on the reverse and a stabilised crack can be seen on the front (bottom left corner) but i love the retro colours too much to not use it. As painting techniques have improved less fordite is formed and vintage material is becoming harder to find. I cut a lot of my fordite myself so if you love the idea of it but want something else making then drop me a message.
