Full description

This freeform oversized pendant features a piece of vintage fordite which has been smoothly bezel set in sterling silver. The fordite has a swirly pattern in shades of blue and brown on the front, the open back setting make the pendant reversible and the back is more dark chocolate and pistachio. The colour palette and freeform (roughly triangular) shape make this piece particularly unisex and a great gift for any car lover. I rarely cut fordite this big and it measures approx 63mm inc bail by 28mm wide, comes with a sterling silver snake chain in a gift box but if you would prefer a brown or black leather cord instead then drop me a message.

Fordite is the name given to the baked build up of paint that formed in the old style spray booths at car factories. As fashions changed so did the colours in fordite and by comparing to old paint charts it is possible to work out the date and factory that fordite has come from. I believe that this material came from a US Ford factory in the late 70's but I'm not completely sure. As painting techniques have improved less fordite is being formed and vintage material is becoming harder to find. I cut a lot of my fordite myself so if you love the idea of it but want something else making then drop me a message.
