Full description
This bird is hand made and measures, 5cm high and 5.5cm long. It is made from white earthenware clay and carved before being fired in an electric kiln, it is then covered in orange raku glaze which when dry is wiped back leaving the glaze in the carved indents. It is then raku fired in a gas kiln, the dark part of the bird is unglazed so comes out a black/greyish colour, after being smoked in sawdust, sometimes the sawdust leaves smoked patterns on unglazed parts, then lightly sanded and polished with beeswax.
