Full description
This bird is hand made and measures approx. 10cm high and 13cm long. It is made from white earthenware clay and carved before being fired in an electric kiln, I then paint on 4 layers of raku glaze, which when dry is wiped back leaving the glaze only in the carved indents, it is then fired again in a gas kiln, then at about 1,000 degrees centigrade it is taken out, this massive change in temperature causes the random crazing in the glaze then it is smoked in a container with sawdust, any unglazed part of the bird and the crazing is then turned a black/greyish colour. After washing and drying it has been polished with bees wax.
