All the pieces in the Rule 30 Collection are knitted on a vintage knitting machine which I've adapted to link to my laptop. This means I can work with patterns that don't have any repeats, like this one. It's generated using an algorithm called a one dimensional cellular automaton. There are many rules in this algorithm and the 30th gives particularly interesting patterns.
I've been fascinated by the intersection of textile crafts and mathematics for many years and hacking my knitting machine has given me the ideal way to express the beauty of the patterns that arise in this area.

Full description
A handy purse in the Knot Unknot signature Rule 30 knitted fabric. It has a sturdy zip and lining and is ideal for carrying cash, bank cards,small tools or knitting and sewing essentials. The outer fabric is pure Shetland-style wool from one of Scotland's oldest mills.The lining is grey polyester cotton and the zip is grey with gold coloured metal. The dimesions are approximately 11cm by 15cm.
I knit the outer fabric in my studio in Edinburgh and the bags are constructed for me by a local social enterprise.
