I've been fascinated by the intersection of textile crafts and mathematics for many years and hacking my knitting machine has given me the ideal way to express the beauty of the patterns that arise in this area.
The motifs on this clutch bag are generated by the "Conway's Game of Life" algorithm. The rules of the game transform one motif to another and then to the third before returning to the first again. The sequence appears to pulse so it was nicknamed the Pulsar pattern. I created the checkerboard layout and colour scheme to reference to some patterns I've seen in 19th century Fair Isle knitwear.

Full description
A neat clutch bag in a four- colour verstion of the Pulsar Check pattern from Knot Unknot's latest collection. It has a sturdy zip and lining and is ideal for carrying cash, bank cards, phone, glasses, keys and everything else you need while out and about. The outer fabric is pure wool grown and spun in Shetland. The lining is black polyester cotton and the zip is black with gold coloured metal. The dimesions are approximately 33cm (w) by 25cm (h).
I knit the outer fabric in my studio in Edinburgh and the bags are constructed for me by a local social enterprise.
