I cut and polish my own fordite, surfite and bowlerite, I'm happy to take commissions. If you wish to return an item please inform me within 14 days of receiving it, you pay the postage for sending it back but I refund the initial postage.
These round stud earrings have cabochons of vintage fordite bezel set in sterling silver and finished with a post and scroll fitting (also sterling silver). The fordite has a wavey pattern of fine bands in cream and grey with hints of blue and red, there are a few dimples on the surface from air bubbles in the material. The studs measure approx 13mm round and the post is mounted approx in the middle. They are lightweight and only 4mm thick. Comes gift boxed.
Fordite is the name given to many layers of cured paint that builds up in old style spray booths at vehicle factories, the paint gets baked hard in between each layer leading to a durable material that can be cut to show off the many colours. This particular material has come from a transit van line in Ford's Dagenham plant in the 1970's, I'm told that it contains AA yellow and BT yellow as well as British Gas blue (by my dad as I'm not old enough to remember the 70's). I cut this material myself from a dwindling stash, you can see the rough in some of the photos - its not included but if you want me to make you something else drop me a message. Fordite is becoming increasingly hard to source and thanks to more efficient painting processes less is being made so if you love your cars get some of the unique material whilst you can.
