A satin speckled grey-white stoneware jar with a bamboo handle and subtle marks reflecting the variations of glaze thickness on the stamped texture marks. The lid and exterior are decorated with brush-applied brown iron oxide splashes. This handbuilt box is perfect for spices, herbs, keys, shells or your small precious items. The jar was made with a UK stoneware and, after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable.
- The jar is food-safe and measures approximately 11cm tall and 14cm wide.
- The bottoms is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9720.
I love making lidded boxes because I am told by returning customers that they get used regularly. I want to engage with people by providing them with something thoughtfully handmade that fits into their daily routine. I take care to make my boxes with a well-fitting lid to add to the pleasure of their use. There are metallic brown abstract splashes and a stamped fishes outside to add visual interest. The base is also texture-decorated for further enjoyment when handling. The shape and fish stamps were my homage to the boxes used for the storage and display of religious relics.
