Mono is a collection of simple forms decorated with white on matt black clay to give a kind of frosted effect. I loved the challenge of limiting myself to one colour only, and echoed the simplicity with linear motifs incised into the white vertical bands. Interiors are glazed with iron lustre glazes which fire to muted shades. Each piece is different, so each has a name! The designs are influenced by the 1930s fabrics of Edinburgh Weavers, a leading modernist textile company of the time.

Full description
Gillie is a small vase with white decoration on black stoneware clay, and iron lustre glazed interior. A white panel features decorative motifs of curved lines, and I have added four vertical stripes, two with further markings. I created the motifs by hand-incised sgraffito decoration, cutting through to the black clay beneath. The images show some of the different patterning around the form, the white on black giving an almost frosted effect. Gillie is 11 cms tall, and will suit any room scheme, urban or country style, looking good with some small wildflowers, as a handy pen pot, or as part of a group display with others from my Mono Collection as you can see in one of the images. On the base is my maker’s mark of a swallow in flight.
