This unique low relief garden wall panel, has been made from stoneware clay, using a variety of hand building techniques such as slab rolling, hand modelling and press moulding directly from clay casts of seaweed, shells and plant materials.
After careful drying, the panel has to be biscuit fired initially to allow the art work to be glazed without fear of breakages.
Stoneware glazes and oxides are then dipped, sponged, poured and layered onto the wall panel, creating colour and texture to melt and fuse onto the clay in the second firing.
This low relief wall panel has been fired to a frost proof temperature for outdoors but could equally be at home in a living room or conservatory setting.
The completed art work is a height of 33 cm, width of 25 cm and a depth of 3/4 cm at its highest point.
Three holes have been hand cut into the outer edges to allow the panel to be screwed straight into a wall or wooden fence.
This Garden Wall panel has been inspired from a recurring theme running through my work, conveying the fragile balance between man, nature, climate change and the ecosystem.
The sheer beauty of the lines, shapes and textures to be found in nature and the landscape which I am lucky to be able to access in my immediate surroundings. Expressed by bringing together clay imprints of shells, seaweed, imprinted plant material, lines, texture and the human face creating a visual narrative.
Layers of coloured glazes and oxides enhance the clay work to further suggest the natural shape of the coastline, landscape and rock formations.
