An elegant red-purple-blue porcelain jar with a bamboo handle and colour variations reflecting the melting and flow of the glaze into the stamped markings. The glaze is transparent white where thin showing the whiteness of the porcelain body. Where thicker it is red and pools to blue. This hand-built jar with a varnished bamboo knob is perfect for jewellery, spices, condiments, herbs or small precious items. The jar was made with a UK porcelain and, after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable.
- All of my work is one-of- a-kind and made by hand.
- The jar measures approximately 11cm tall and 7cm wide. The bottoms is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9814.
I like making lidded jars because I am told by returning customers that they often get used regularly. I want to engage with people by providing them with something thoughtfully handmade that usefully fits into their daily routine. I take care to make a well-fitting lid to add to the pleasure of its use. The surfaces have indentations and stamps to retain a layer of glaze. This jar was inspired by my long-term interest oriental flambe iridescent glazes.
