Full description
These statement earrings have an unusual hexagonal design with a fordite cabochon bezel set in sterling silver forming the bottom half of the lower hexagon. The upper half of the hexagon is formed in sterling silver wire and the earrings are finished off with post and scroll fittings which are hidden behind the top hexagon. The fordite has concentric rings on a white back ground, the rings are in sparkly silver, red, navy and black, several of the bands are metallic and sparkle when the light catches them.
Fordite is the name given to the over spray paint that built up in the old style spray booths at vehicle factories. The over spray would pass through the curing ovens in between each layer giving a hard build up which would need to be sporadically removed and someone realised that this could be cut and polished to show off the many colours present. I believe this material to have come from Ford's Hazelwood factory before it closed in the 2000's and the colours are certainly consistent with the paint colours used for the trucks they produced.
Measure approx 52mm by 16mm, the fordite measures 17mm by 13mm. Comes gift boxed.
