Well, what a brilliant donation this turned out to be. I love the soft colour palette of this original old piece of table linen. Although it was well washed and used, it still had enough beautiful sections which were perfect for designing and making into accessories.
There is a smaller toiletries bag in this fabric also available in my shop right now.

Full description
I was given this fabulous old vintage tablecloth by a friend in York. I made it up into a practical and rather wonderful handbag, which can also be used as a shoulder bag.
First, I backed the embroidery onto canvas to give it some body, tho it is still soft, and made the back from recycled blue denim to add some strength and edge. It opens with a beige, chunky, 26 cm long zip, with a pretty flower head pull.
The handbag measures 19 cm long and the width is 26 cm.
A tuck at each end gives a base of 3 cm wide, so although this is a compact little bag, it is surprisingly roomy. Inside there is a little embroidered 15 cm square pocket for the debris of your life, as well as your keys and phone.
I have stitched a faded green vintage ric-rac braid along the two straps, which each measure 70 cm, making it useful as both a shoulder or handheld bag. I finished the bag off with my own embroidered name tag.
The hand stitched cross stitch is so dense, it gives the impression of being tapestry in places, which makes It a great present for a collector of vintage textiles, or for someone who loves to embroider. I think it could also make an original wedding present for a bride to be.
I love to reuse where I possibly can. Your bag will be posted out to you wrapped in clean, recycled wrapping from my hoard of vintage and second hand papers and cardboard.
It will be posted out as Royal Mail 2nd class signed for, which takes up to 3 days, and will need a signature on arrival.
