Although glimpses of our neighbourhood barn owls are fleeting and rare, I often hear them calling at night.
There is a sanctuary nearby where we have watched them more closely and can study how they fly and feed, and admire that gorgeous plumage. I've heard that people can relate more strongly to owls than other birds because they have flat faces and forward facing eyes like ourselves. I've always associated them with wisdom, but that might be more to do with Winnie the Pooh!
Whatever the reason, I think they are beautiful!

Embroidered by hand, fabric picture of a Barn Owl
The elusive barn owls near our home can often be heard at night, but I haven't yet had a good look at a wild one.
My embroidery work is hand stitched onto fabric scraps using strands of embroidery thread and the picture is gradually built up using stitches of various lengths and colours. It's a style I've called "drawing with threads", and although time consuming, it does show plenty of detail.
The textile piece is approx 5 x 5cms and the wooden frame is about 13 x 13cms, ready for display.
I photographed the item in natural light and without the protective glass, to show the colours and detail, but I expect you know that screens and monitors aren't always that accurate...
A lovely gift for a nature lover or a bird watcher.
