These unusual cufflinks feature ovals of fordite bezel set in sterling silver and finished with swivel backs.This fordite has stripes of white, yellow, sparkly red and silver and I cut and polished the pair to be as close matching as I could (the last photo shows the slice I cut them from). What's fordite you wonder? Fordite is layers of paint that built up in the old spray booths at car plants back when the cars were manually sprayed, the build up would get baked repeatedly as the car panels were processed to give a hard, durable material. These cabochons were cut from a piece of rough recovered from one of the Detroit / Michigan plants in the late 90's so I think they would make a great 21st birthday present for a car lover as they would be approximately the same age (in my experience all petrol heads develop a thing for fordite when they find out about it). The painting method has changed now so fordite is no longer made and is getting harder to source.
Measure 21mm by 15mm across the face of the cufflink and have a standard sterling silver swivel back so they measure 19mm deep when closed, these have a low dome and fordite is nice and lightweight in the cuffs. Comes gift boxed.
