This print is based on a photograph that I took some years ago - although it looks like a hot summer's day, the empty beach is due to the fact that is was actually a very cold Easter morning! A great time to have the beach all to yourself though, and one of our favourite places as a family. I needed to complete this print in a limited time, as one of the edition was needed for an event in May, so I had to plan a way of achieving what should have been a five colour reduction in three stages - this was done using the graduated colour for the sky and sand layers, and by printing the blue sea and the green on top of the cliff at the same time, by using two rollers with the different inks.

Full description

One of a limited edition of 11 reduction linocut prints of the beach at Yaverland, near Sandown, Isle of Wight. It's a three-stage, four colour print - the sky was printed first, then that part of the block was cut away completely to prevent marking the clear blue sky. The beach was printed next, then carved back so that the sea and top of cliff could be printed, inked separately, at the same time. Each print is slightly different and therefore unique to due the hand-printed technique.

The image measures 25.5cm x 17.8cm, the paper measures 37.5cm x 28.5cm approx. It is printed on white BFK Rives paper.

Designed by Mary Parker in Stoke-on-Trent
