Raku is a pottery technique that has its origins in 16th Century Japan. It involves removing ware from the kiln while the glaze is still molten, putting it into a reduction chamber and covering with sawdust. This method creates the characteristic 'crackle' glaze.
The chance nature of this process means that every raku piece is completely unique with its own personality. Translated from the Japanese, raku means 'enjoyment'.

A lovely raku pot with a bold design. Great as a display piece or as a stylish desk accessory.
This cylinder/beaker pot is handthrown in stoneware clay and then fired using a raku technique. Two glazes have been used to decorate: a gorgeous aqua blue crackle glaze and a white crackle on opposite sides of the pot both inside and out. A band of bare clay separates the two glazes and adds a beautiful black line across the pot.
Raku firing creates beautiful crackles in the glaze and makes every pot unique. This technique means these pots are decorative only and unsuitable for food use or liquids.
Measurements:
8cm x 8cm (3.14 inches x 3.14 inches)
This pot has my own pottery seal near the base.
