A delicate necklace made using vintage lace, an old recycled brooch and beads, both vintage and modern. The lace was made by embroidering on a very fine mesh and it has triangular points along the lower edge. The brooch, broken when I acquired it, has a gold coloured mount for three large white gems, they are very bright with lots of sparkle.
I always start these pieces by beading along the raw edge of the lace, gathering it at the same time to give a slight curve and a fullness to the lace, next the brooch is applied, often I have to work out a way to support the weight on the lace so it doesn't drag and hang oddly. Finally the necklace is completed with needle bead weaving at each end. I use both vintage and modern beads in these pieces and try to reflect the style of the lace in the beading where I can.
This is a perfect wedding necklace, although it could be worn any time - it would look great with your summer tan!
It combines something old and something new in one piece of jewellery, it's also unique, there can never be another like it as this piece of lace and that particular piece of jewellery are one offs, I doubt if I'll ever find another brooch like that one and the pieces of vintage lace I buy tend to be fairly short lengths.
The inspiration comes from the materials. When I get a new piece of jewellery from somewhere I go through the lace collection to find something that works well with it. These two seem to me to be a pretty good combination, frothy delicate lace with the sparkle and rather brash glitter of the brooch.
