I'm inspired by the interaction of different metals and heat to create unpredictable effects and beautiful accidents.

Full description

A small heart shaped pendant made of brass, with a fused silver decoration in the form of an x with a random dot below. Unusual and unique, the pendant hangs from very fine, green leather thong fastened with a gilt bolt ring. A hand made copper wire ring supports the pendant on the thonging.

The method of making these little pendants is such that there will never be two the same, the silver is fused to the base metal using heat and it's really not controllable, the silver melts as it chooses and runs, or doesn't, in a random fashion. After cleaning the firestain from the piece, it is gently reheated to give the lovely rainbow effects.

I love the unpredictable nature of this work, its exciting waiting for the silver to melt and take on it's final shape, sometimes it just refuses to co-operate and no matter how much I heat it nothing happens, or it melts but refuses to fix itself to the copper or brass shape.
