Full description
This useful crock is designed to keep your butter fresh and soft at room temperature.
The lid has a hollow flange where you should pack the butter in.
This lid is turned upside down while serving butter, but kept in the pot when not.
In the bottom dish you should add enough water to form a seal with the butter when the lid is in place.
This butterdish design was created before the invention of the fridge to keep butter fresh on the counter for several weeks. Be sure to change your water every few days to ensure the freshness of your butter.
It is not the warmth which makes the butter go off but exposure to the air.
Hand thrown on my pottery wheel using strong toasted stoneware clay, and finished in a lovely dark forest green reactive glaze.
The whole keeper when closed measures 11.5cm across the lid and 10cm high.
The butter chamber is 7.5cm across by 7cm deep and this one should hold about 265gms of butter.
Foodsafe glazes....dishwasher, oven and microwave safe.
Weight 760gms.
