Full description
A story of a road trip and a growing garden.
This artwork is inspired by a summer holiday in Aland, Finland. While we were driving slowly along the coastal roads, I saw these beautiful red poppies growing wild. I collected a few to dry them, and since that trip, I have made it a tradition to sow their seeds in my garden every year. It is a flower that represents a beautiful memory that continues to grow.
The poppy is a very delicate flower. When the petals dry, they naturally turn a soft purple, but when I apply the professional varnish, they transform into a rich brick red. Over time, the thin petals become slightly translucent, which is truly poetic. I layered these petals on Finnish birch wood, added gold leaf and rock crystal hidden beneath to create a subtle 3D relief.
Size: 13x18 cm artwork in a 23x28x6 cm deep box frame.
Materials: Dried poppy petals from Aland, Finnish birch, gold leaf, rock crystal and eco-label acrylic.
Glass: I used AR 92 anti-reflective glass. It is so clear that you can see every delicate detail of the translucent petals.
Natural Evolution: This is a living piece. Because I use real organic materials, the colors will change slightly over time. This is part of the story of the poppy. Please do not hang it in a humid place.
Date: April 2022.
I hope Coquelicot brings a sense of calm and the light of a Finnish summer into your home. It is a unique artwork made with heart and memories of the road. It is ready for a new home.
