Technique bodily control must be mastered only because the body must not stand in the way of the soul s expression. The only reason for mastering technique is to make sure the body does not prevent the soul from expressing itself.

I've painted feet on point for a few years now. I've loved painting the strength of the legs against the the perfect balance in the feet. This painting is the largest I've done on the subject and I loved been able to add details and textures I'd have struggled with on a smaller canvas. I wanted to paint just the shoes, still and heavy without the dancer to make them light.
A toe shoe is as eccentric as the ballerina who wears it: their marriage is a commitment.
