This piece was inspired by woodland wildlife and the idea of small, watchful characters that feel quietly present rather than expressive. Using simple forms and a limited palette allows the personality of the fox to emerge through shape and posture, encouraging slow looking and imagination.

Full description
This mini hand carved wooden fox sculpture is a one-of-a-kind artwork, carved slowly by hand from solid basswood and hand painted using artist acrylic paints.
The fox is shaped in the round, with each carved facet left visible to celebrate the making process.
Rather than detailed realism, the character is suggested through posture, shape and colour — giving the piece a quiet, watchful presence. The knitted hat adds a gentle sense of warmth and personality without tipping into ornament.
At 5 cm tall, this is an intentionally small sculpture, designed to be discovered rather than announced. Its scale encourages close looking, revealing subtle shifts in form and expression as it’s turned in the light.
The painted surface contrasts with the natural texture of the wood beneath, and the base is finished with my maker’s mark on the underside.
