STELFORTH · art & illustration

Woodcut-inspired illustration and handcrafted pieces rooted in place, friendship and everyday moments.

Hello, I’m Anna — the artist behind STELFORTH.
I’m a UK-based illustrator and maker, creating work inspired by traditional woodcut, lino-cut and early 20th-century printmaking, with a strong focus on storytelling, place and everyday moments.

My creative journey began with training in set design and set building at LAMDA (the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art), where I learned to make props, build environments and think visually in three dimensions. I later worked as a scroll saw artist, cutting and shaping wood by hand — an experience that rooted my practice firmly in materials, tools and slow, thoughtful making.

Although my work has evolved over time, that hands-on background still shapes everything I create. My illustrations are designed as if they could be carved or printed, using bold shapes, strong lines and carefully chosen colour palettes. Alongside illustration, I also make small wooden sculptures and carved characters, bringing my drawings into physical form.

I draw inspiration from familiar places and quiet moments — coastal paths, galleries, cafés, trees, birds, foxes, and long walks with Teddy, my red Fell Lakeland Terrier, who I adopted from Raystede in Ringmer. Much of my work explores friendship, memory and a sense of place, often with a gentle narrative woven through it.

I work from my home studio, where ideas are allowed to develop at their own pace. There’s no studio cat here, but Teddy is usually nearby, keeping an eye on things.

Everything in my shop is designed and made by me, with care and intention. I love creating pieces that feel thoughtful, comforting and quietly timeless.

Thank you for visiting my shop — I’m really glad you’re here.
