Full description
This hand embroidered fig brooch is inspired by the quiet beauty of a fig sliced open from top to bottom. It is made by me in my Guernsey studio in the Channel Islands, where I work with textiles and mixed media, focusing on bead embroidery and detailed, tactile surfaces.
The design shows the inside of the fig, with the centre embroidered in rich red beads, fading outwards into white, then into a bluey-purple edge. The outer shape is finished with a blanket stitch worked in mauve-coloured beads, creating a soft outline and a gentle contrast against the white felt base. The embroidery is solid and carefully built up, giving the piece depth and a calm, considered feel. Each brooch is made by hand and small variations are part of its character.
The finished brooch measures approximately 44 mm by 35 mm. A metal brooch bar is securely attached to the back, allowing it to be worn on clothing, coats, scarves or bags.
This fig brooch is a small, wearable textile artwork and would suit anyone who enjoys fruit-inspired jewellery, natural forms or unusual handmade accessories. It is made slowly and with care, and I hope it brings a quiet sense of pleasure to whoever wears it.
