This circular grapefruit slice brooch is a hand embroidered beadwork piece, inspired by the colour and structure of a sliced piece of fruit. It is made by me in my Guernsey studio in the Channel Islands, where I work with textiles and mixed media, focusing on slow, detailed processes developed over many years of practice.

The design shows the inside of a grapefruit, with individual segments picked out in a mix of red, yellow, pale pink, white and orange beads. The beadwork varies across the surface, while the outer edge is stitched with small seed beads to give a neat, defined outline. The embroidery is worked onto dark pink felt, which adds warmth and contrast to the lighter colours and helps the details stand out. Each brooch is made by hand and allowed to develop naturally, so small variations are part of the finished piece.

The brooch measures approximately 5 cm in diameter and has a metal brooch bar securely attached to the back, making it easy to wear on clothing, coats, scarves or bags.
