I went all the way to Sweden to see my first crested tit. There, they are garden birds that you can see from a kitchen window if you have trees and a bird table. The specific bird that inspired this miniature was one I saw on a summer Nordic adventure. I was quite behind the rest of the family, listening and searching for birds through my binoculars as usual, walking beside a lake surrounded by trees. As I swept my eyes around the higher branches above me, some movement by my legs made me glance down and there, in the lowest part of the undergrowth was a crested tit. My first, it kindly stayed beside me for what felt like ages, cocking its head and taking its time to look me over too. When it flew away in a flash off white and brown, I knew it was off toward the sound of a distant mixed flock of tits where it was too dark for me to see. How magical is that for a first bird encounter!
Safety information
Glass bell jar must be handled with care to avoid breakage. The cork base is not permanently attached to the glass top section and should only be separated with great care. If separated only gentle pressure should be applied to reattach the bell jar to the cork. The tiny bird and any botanical elements are permanently attached to their plinth and will contain wool and plant fibre products and wire which may be sharp if handled roughly.

If you live in the UK and want to see these diminutive birds, known for their black and white crest-topped head, you’d need to get to Scotland and in amongst the trees they call home. Luckily, I have made you a tiny needlefelt wool Crested Tit standing on sparkly woollen snow, that will grace your home no matter where you are!
In their own tiny hanging glass bell jar with a cork stopper and ribbon, each miniature bird gift comes securely enclosed in a beautiful, high-quality gift box tied with a bow, snuggled in tissue paper and with a signed Mindful Felting tag to authenticate it as one of my own bespoke bird creations.
My mini crested tit bird decoration, is hand-made from sheep’s wool, measures just over 3.5cms long and almost 3cms tall. It stands on tiny wire legs with teensy-tiny clawed toes, has a minute woollen beady eye and beak, and I’ve made individual flight feathers so it could fly away in a flurry of tiny wings. Scaled to 1:4 of life-size he fits easily inside the 11cm height by 6cm diameter glass bell jar with integral hanging hook, which can hang safely from a tree branch full of pretty lights, nestle onto a windowsill or stand proud by your bird books on a shelf.
Quirky, sweet and full of character, my birds are tiny works of art designed to be educational and decorative items for the adult collector and are not toys.
