Full description
Slimline pen, twist action ballpoint, black ink, handmade in my own workshop. Gunmetal fittings protected with lacquer for a hard wearing finish then finished with a wax polish for a luxurious feel when writing. Impressive grain pattern makes unique gift.
Tamboti is prized in Africa as a decorative hardwood, used for luxury furniture and other high end applications. Tamboti is a relatively small tree, and is becoming less and less common because of its valuable wood. Prices are rather high for an imported African wood, though not as high as other exotic woods from the region, such as Pink Ivory or African Blackwood. Due to its properties and potential for exploitation, tamboti wood is considered a precious timber in some regions and its export is closely monitored.
The heartwood is light and dark chocolate brown. At 1010kg'sm3 the wood is hard, heavy, durable, close-grained. It sandpapers well and takes oils and varnish well finishing with a satin like lustre. When freshly worked it has a distinctive, sweetish smell. The wood is almost indestructible. It is used in musical instruments, turning and carving.
A unique and genuinely hand turned pen made from rare African wood on my lathe. This is the actual pen you will receive. Comes with free felt carry pouch.
