Encountering an owl in the wild has always been a rare and special experience for me. Thus far the only species I have seen in the wild are Tawny owls but hopefully I will be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the others sometime.
I have always found great enjoyment in crafting animal figures, particularly those that incorporate a sense of movement and to that end I designed and made these owl decorations. My vision for them is that they give the impression of swooping gracefully around the branches of a Christmas tree, or wherever they are displayed.

Full description
This set features three flying owls, each a bit smaller than my usual creations—around 9cm across the wings, with a body and tail length of 7 to 9cm. Included are one of each type, inspired by barn, tawny, and snowy owls. I’d hoped that making these wee ones in a smaller size would make the process much quicker, but it turns out every stage takes just as much time! So, I’m not certain I’ll make them this size again and may stick to the larger ones in future, but I’ll see how things unfold.
As always, each owl is painstakingly needle felted, with glass eyes and fine details added using permanent ink. Their wings and tails are carefully stiffened and pressed, and wire supports allow the wings to be gently posed—just bear in mind, repositioning the wings can alter the balance when they’re hung up.
These are a lovely addition to any eclectic Christmas tree, or as a hanging ornament year round.
