I love saori weaving as a way of exploring how to combine colours and textures in ways not seen in most woven items - it's a very creative process! First I rummage in my wool stash to come up with the sequence of colours I would like to use; often this then requires some spinning extra bespoke yarns to aid the merging from one colour to the next. I'll then look for different textures (eg textured cotton, dyed fleece, sari silk threads and ribbons) that could either blend in or provide a punch of complementary colour alongside the main colour variation. The end result is never planned out in detail, but all part of an improvisation while weaving at the loom.

Full description
Hand-woven in the very creative method of Japanese 'saori', this decorative wall hanging is unique. A simple black cotton is used as the main warp, and added to this a multicoloured weft that ranges from lime green - through leaf green, teal and blue - to a purple. The colours come mostly from hand-spun wool, but saori silk ribbons, felted wool, sari silk and dyed fleece are also included - either to blend in or to provide a complemetary pop of colour. Added warps in a white slub cotton provide extra interest in short vertical lines of loops and swirls. The hanging is 88 x 47 cm (excluding the fringe) and weighs 240g; a hanging rod is included.
