Agate is a form of Chalcedony, part of the Quartz family, and gets its name from the River Achates, in Sicily, where it was first found.
It is one of the oldest known minerals, used by the ancient Sumerians and Egyptians for ornaments and amulets.
It was a stone much prized by ancient warriors as it was considered a stone of protection, and thought to promote strength and courage in battle.
The butterfly is a potent symbol in many cultures around the world, symbolising transformation, rebirth, joy and long life.
In Christianity they are a symbol of resurrection, so this would make a lovely Easter gift as an alternative to chocolate.
The Romans associated butterflies with wedded bliss, and in Japan two butterflies indicate that a marriage is blessed.

Beaded bracelet of mixed 4mm red and orange Agate set with an 8mm top quality Austrian 'silver shadow' crystal butterfly, 5mm and 4mm crystal bicones in the colours 'light siam shimmer, 'clear' and 'padparadscha', and a 10mm red and white Czech glass Heart.
The heart and crystal beads are highlighted with tiny 2mm gold vermeil spacers.
The Agate beads are in various shades of orange-red, from light amber to deep crimson.
The high end crystal beads have a lovely sparkle.
This bracelet measures approximately 6.5 inches (16.5cm), which is perfect for a 6 inch (15cm) wrist. Please contact me via the button below my shop banner if you would like it made to fit a smaller or larger wrist.
Your bracelet will be wrapped in tissue and presented in a small organza gift bag.
