My background is in Graphic Design and although I'm now retired I still enjoy the creative process. A lot of my work features birds and flowers and I particularly love combining different materials and patterns to create colourful, one-of-a-kind mixed media pieces.

'Blue tit and chrysanthemums' is the latest textile artwork in my 'Birds & Blooms' collection. We had so many baby blue tits on our feeder this summer it inspired me to create one of these pretty little birds in fabric.
This one-of-a-kind hand stitched picture would make a lovely gift for a nature lover or anyone who enjoys watching the birds in their garden.
I've used a selection of botanical fabrics for the background including batik. The blue tit has been made by carefully layering and hand stitching a selection of fabrics to represent his plumage, including a snippet of cotton lace for some of his wing feathers.
I've used a range of embroidery threads to add texture and variations in colour to his plumage and to create his beak and legs.
I've fussy cut and offset a chrysanthemum from the background fabric and used a subtle wash of paints and inks to give it a bit of standout. A few metallic seed beads at the centre adds a bit of sparkle and texture.
I've made a matching tag in case you're sending it as a gift.
The artwork comes in a good quality double mount. Outer measurements 10 x 8 inches. Visible area 7 x 5 inches. It is titled and signed on the reverse.
