I had the idea whilst working on a circular frame for a series of mats that I mentally labelled ‘Up Periscope’. I love the idea that a periscope could pop up out if any body of water, at any place in the world and take a snapshot of what it saw. The pieces in this series whilst not necessarily being true representations of a particular place are inspired by real life places and sometimes combinations of different places.

'La Petite Maison aux Volets Blue' can be found in the estuary near St Cado in Brittany, France. Inspiration for artists over time, this wall hanging is my own offering of the little house with the blue shutters. Made using a mixture of recycled and new wool with a little bit of Harris Tweed also thrown into the mix.
The wall hanging is created using a traditional rug making technique known as 'Hooky' in the North East of England. Strips of wool are hooked through a hessian base to produce a colourful and vibrant piece. The hand whipped edge provides a neat and robust finish.
Please be advised that this piece is intended as a wall hanging only.
