My starting point is always playing with the colours. I love the variation across this scarf - the mix of creams, deep reds, grey nepps and even a tiny bit of yellow-orange combine to produce subtle stripes of a dusky pink. As I was spinning the weft yarn, the colours produced made me think of fresh cream stirred into a bowl of fresh strawberries. In order to make the woven pattern of diamonds stand out I chose a contrasting warp in blacks... with a little touch of red at the edge.

Full description
This lightweight wool scarf is hand-woven from a gentle mix of dusty pink, cream, black and crimson red. The weft yarn was home-spun, mixing merino and blue faced Leicester wool (75%) with soft baby alpaca (25%). The colours are mottled, subtly varying along the length of the scarf; this blend is woven into a pattern of diamonds on a warp of thin silk in contrasting colours. Most of the width of the scarf has a black warp, but there is a 3cm wide band of deep crimson along one long edge. The scarf is 148 cm in length (excluding the tassels) and 20cm wide. Hand-wash carefully at low temperature and lie flat to air dry.
