Beautiful handmade chess sets, chess boards and chess pieces crafted for you here in Ireland. With over 15 years experience and an honors degree in fine art your disposal.
This listing is for a beautiful custom made chessboard based upon a vintage York Rose design with a highly detailed engraved border.
The board has been lovingly painted in a soft aged Blue in keeping with the character of the original board and carefully enhanced through a variety of painting techniques.
The York Rose design was adopted in the 14th century as an heraldic symbol of the royal House of York which alongside the beautiful flowing engraved border gives this board a deep Gothic yet Renaissance feel and sits very comfortably between the two genres.
The board itself measures around 45cm x 45cm (17.5 inches) and is around 3.5cm thick with 5cm squares (aprox) making this an impressively sized board and a perfect fit for most of (but not all of) the chess sets available here.
