Beautiful handmade chess sets, chess boards and chess pieces crafted for you here in Ireland. With over 15 years experience and an honors degree in fine art your disposal.
This listing is for a beautiful custom made rustic styled chess board based upon an old medieval York Rose design with a highly detailed engraved border.
The board has been lovingly painted in an aged white and Gold Metallic effect in keeping with the character of the original board and carefully enhanced through a variety of painting techniques.
The York Rose design was adopted in the 14th century as an heraldic symbol of the royal House of York which alongside the beautiful flowing engraved border gives this board a deep Gothic yet Renaissance feel and sits very comfortably between the two genres.
The board itself measures around 45cm x 45cm (17.5 inches) and is around 3.5cm thick with 5cm squares (aprox) making this an impressively sized board and a perfect fit for most of (but not all of) the chess sets available here.
The board is made from reconstructed stone which not only offers the player a wonderful playing surface but is also free from the many harmful and carcinogenic, chemicals found in pieces made using polyurethane or polyester resins (For further information on the harmful effects of Polyurethane please visit the safe parent website ).
