These statement earrings have have drops of bright fordite bezel set in sterling silver hanging beneath triangular pieces of tourmalinated quartz which hide the post and scroll fittings. The fordite is predominantly a wavey pattern of cream and orange with a little black and red (someone compared it to koi carp colours), the patterns don't match but the drops were cut from the same piece of rough so they work as a pair. Tourmalinated quartz is clear quartz which black needles of tourmaline have grown inside it, an unusual pairing but I think that it highlights the black in the fordite. They measure approx 51mm by 17mm but fordite is surprisingly lightweight so they would be comfortable to wear all day. Comes in a gift box.
Fordite is the name given to many layers of cured paint that builds up in spray booths at vehicle factories, the paint gets baked hard in between each layer leading to a durable material. This particular material was sold to me as coming from a tractor factory (possibly a Ford plant in Dearborn, USA) in the 1930's and the colours are certainly consistent with the paint charts I've found for that era. I cut this material myself from the slabettes I bought so if you want me to make you something else drop me a message. Fordite is becoming increasingly hard to source thanks to more efficient painting processes so if you love vehicles get some of the unique material whilst you can.
