Full description
Bookmark with beach and sea. This textile art bookmark features various different fabrics and free-motion embroidery. The design depicts a partly cloudy sky, under which waves are breaking onto a sandy beach. There is a small blue yacht, with a blue and white floral sail, on the horizon. I've used layers of different fabrics, fluffy yarn, lace and fabric selvedge to make the sea. The sandy beach consists of a piece of pale beige fabric with a suede-like finish. I’ve hand-stamped the words “Ebb & flow” in black ink onto a piece of frayed cream cotton (this has then been ironed to make it water-resistant). This has been added to the beach, along with a piece of hessian, and some grasses, which have been free-motion embroidered. The bookmark has been stiffened with an inner layer of interfacing and backed with pale blue fabric with an abstract pattern of silvery cream lines. The edges have been finished with zig-zag stitching in blue thread.
This lovely beach themed bookmark would make an ideal gift for anyone who loves reading and the sea. It is also an inexpensive way of owning a piece of original textile art.
